I vaguely recall someone hit this behaviour last year sometime as well.
I've not done anything weird, or even any merges to that v5 branch. So
it should be fine.
Is there anything unusual about the breaking checkout? was is "trunk" at
some time? or you use --local commits? partial rebase or merge?
pull with specific rev number ?
